No Bling is a Good ThingFeb 06, 2010
By Denver Boone I recently purchased through Amazon the Luminox 8802 Navy Seal 20th Anniversary 8802 Black/Graphite Dial watch. The design of this model is understated compared to some other Luminox models. I am a fan of Luminox, but frankly some models are too garish IMHO. I was looking for a good quality watch that does what I need without confusing me with extras I neither want or use.
This watch doesn't have the "WOW! Look at me!" that many people prefer. The watch excells in low light and dark conditions. Unlike many other watches, the Luminox doesn't need an external source for its luminosity. It is however the watch of choice when your buddy can't see the hands on their own watch and is constantly asking you for the time.
The strap is rubber and is comfortable. I don't know if a stainless steel bracelet is available.
If I could change a couple of features it would be making the calendar a little bigger (to help my aging eyes), and have a screwdown crown. If your are looking for a watch with all the bells and whistles with multple funtions this isn't it. Overall however, for a good looking low key everyday watch, Luminox has a winner.

Surpassed my expectationsAug 09, 2010
By Steve Shapiro I got my 8802 as a gift for my birthday. It really is a great watch.
I had read a lot of reviews on Luminox watches that stated the gas capsules had come loose inside the face or fallen off. Even some that have said they got water inside the watch.
I haven't had any of those issues. A week after I got the watch I used it in some rough salt water conditions. The watch got its share of salt and sand abuse.
Immediately after the bezel dial became hard to turn but after submerging it in fresh water and rotating the dial a few times, the sand and salt came free.
The watch looks great. Its very unassuming and not as gaudy as some of the other luminox watches that have over accented tick marks and numbers.
The band is longer then I anticipated and requires the use of the second keeper. I don't have many watches with bands this long but I understand the long band allows it to be worn over clothing etc.
Its very solid and a lot lighter then it looks. I imagine that is because of the polycarbonate/carbon fiber material.
The illumination is noticeable in indoors and dusk like conditions, not just in total darkness.
The only minor knock on the watch is that the face and numbers are so muted that if you are looking at it from an angle or if there is glare you lose the ability to see the numbers. The illuminated indicators are still very visible, so telling time isn't an issue at all, its simply a cosmetic issue.

Luminox 20th Anniversary EditionMay 09, 2010
By Peter Morrison This watch is everything you expect from Luminox. I was surprised at how light it is for the size of it. That would be the carbon fibre casing I guess. It is a large dial that is easy to read and the dial glows well in the dark. I like the grey face. Not black but not flashy.
I think I prefer the original strap to the new Evo strap. I find this one gets a bit sweaty when warm. The watch is fairly thick so if you are looking for a slim, low profile watch, you need to buy something else.
All in all a good purchase. A very manly device for weekend wear that should stand up to whatever you get into.

Great Watch....Apr 08, 2010

Love the watch... I have a Tag for day and the Luminox for night... One caution, don't pay for two day shipping as you most likely will not get it in two days from Amazon/MrWatch. I ordered it on Thursday night but, did not receive it until Tuesday even though I paid for two day shipping.... So, the watch is great but, don't waste your money on quick shipping...

Another quality Luminox productApr 30, 2010

I am a LONG time Luminox fan. This is my fourth watch, with my first having been bought in the late 90's. That Navy Seals watch is still in use by the way, and still glowing bright (although not quite as bright as my newer ones, but only marginally less). Every one of my Luminox watches (all are dive series watches) are of the highest quality and reliability and I would most certainly recommend them.
I'm one of those types that doesn't get into hundreds of gadgets and gizmos in my watch. I just want a watch with bold styling, and will simply give me the time and date. Beyond that I'm not interested in extras (my iPhone handles my need for all that).
This 20th anniversary series watch caught my eye because of the typical bold styling of the brand, plus the subdued colors of the hands and numerals, which is a departure from the white that I normally see in their selections.
I am thoroughly satisfied with the watch as another fine addition to my collection.
The $199 price that I paid for this is more than reasonable considering I paid around the same as my original watch from Cabelas around 12 years ago.
It is the best type of watch for all lighting conditions, period!
