The Luminox self-powered illumination system must be installed into each and every watch. It is a costly and time consuming endeavor but it is what makes Luminox watches special. It is our raison d'ĂȘtre. Each watch employs tiny self-powered micro gas lights developed by the world leader in the luminous compound industry. These micro gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules) are installed into the hands, hour markers, and when necessary, bezels of our watches. Luminox watches need no external light source to "charge" the paint on the dial or hands in order to glow as do conventional luminous watches. Nor do they require the push of a button to light the dial as do watches with electroluminescence. The U.S. military has long recognized the advantages of micro gas light sources and their use is specified in procurement specification MIL-W-46374F. Our self-powered illumination-Luminox Light Technology (LLT) allows one to view time-at-a-glance, no matter what the light level, even in complete darkness. This ease of being able to read time effortlessly seems to fill a need for various military and law enforcement groups. It is why the U.S. Navy SEALs Procurement officers came to us asking us to create dive watches for them for night missions. It is also why U.S. Air Force pilots flying the F-117 NighthawkTM Stealth Jets asked the same of us. These are only two of many groups of "heroes" that truly understand and appreciate the inherent benefit of wearing a Luminox timepiece. | | | Features: | |

A Great Watch!Feb 08, 2011
By Chris H. The Luminox A.1887 Field Chronograph Alarm is a watch worthy of purchase. From the large (47mm) face, which makes reading time quick and easy, to the impressive design, loud alarm and robust leather strap, this is a handsome addition to anyone's watch collection
The numbers are large and the layout attractive. The sapphire glass crystal creates a scratch resistant and tough face. The construction is high quality and feels substantial and rugged. This watch caliber is the Swiss Ronda 5130.D with 19 jewels, which makes it accurate to within 30 seconds a month. The Alarm Time is easily set for a maximum of 12 hours in advance and produces a crisp, loud alarm. The design is classic chronograph with an expanded three day calender view. The strap is robust and conforms to the wrist in only a matter of a few days. The Tritium gas tube illumination is excellent for reading the face in darkness or subdued lighting. The chronograph function is accurate and simple to use. Be sure to set the Reference Time first and then the Watch Time second. The Reference Time needs to be set accurately in order for the Alarm Time to work correctly.
One note in closing. Take advantage of one of the best warranties in the watch industry, 2 years on the watch and 10 years on the Tritium gas tubes, by ensuring you purchase this watch from an Authorized dealer. If in doubt call Luminox and ask. Yes you can find it cheaper by $50 to $100 dollars from some sellers but the warranty is not valid because they priced the watch below the manufactures price plan, which negates the warranty. It is a great peace of mind to know that for the next 2/10 years this watch will be covered for the amount of money it costs.
This is an entry level watch in the luxury market that is far worth more than what it costs. The compliments you receive will tell you that it was the right purchase to make!
