The Luminox self-powered illumination system must be installed into each and every watch. It is a costly and time consuming endeavor but it is what makes Luminox watches special. It is our raison d'être. Each watch employs tiny self-powered micro gas lights developed by the world leader in the luminous compound industry. These micro gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules) are installed into the hands, hour markers, and when necessary, bezels of our watches. Luminox watches need no external light source to "charge" the paint on the dial or hands in order to glow as do conventional luminous watches. Nor do they require the push of a button to light the dial as do watches with electroluminescence. The U.S. military has long recognized the advantages of micro gas light sources and their use is specified in procurement specification MIL-W-46374F. Our self-powered illumination-Luminox Light Technology (LLT) allows one to view time-at-a-glance, no matter what the light level, even in complete darkness. This ease of being able to read time effortlessly seems to fill a need for various military and law enforcement groups. It is why the U.S. Navy SEALs Procurement officers came to us asking us to create dive watches for them for night missions. It is also why U.S. Air Force pilots flying the F-117 NighthawkTM Stealth Jets asked the same of us. So I bought both the Black Out version of the chronograph and the Brown nonchrono (which has alot of detailed reviews so pop over there for a more detailed review of the watch in general). I am going to focus on the differences of the black out.
First
The color of the "glowing tubes" is the LED white color with an orange one at the top of the dial. It looks simply amazing on the all black watch.
Second
As I am sure you have notice this is an all black watch, which does make the chronograph portion difficult to see in anything but good light, but for me that was pretty obvious.
Third
I really like: One, how hard it is to push the buttons so as to ensure no accidental button pushes and Two that the center dial screws out before you can pull it out. Very cool.
All in all from the moment you put this watch on you will notice how sturdy the leather band is and it gives you a good feeling of the quality of the rest of the watch. After playing with this watch practically all night, I would say that for the money you can't do any better. You can of course get more complicated, but not better.

I'm serving in Afghanistan right now, and usually if we order stuff from online it takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get here.
I ordered this watch on May 25 and got her on May 30! That, i think, was record braking in delivery up there!

This watch has a very nice size and weight to it. High quality leather strap, but i think i'll use it back home, for now, i'll switch it to Nato Straps. All black, love the blue lights, nothing fancy about it, in other words perfect!

I have gotten many complements on this watch. I love the large face, luminated hands & hour markers. The only complaints are; 1) I wish it came with a metal band, and, 2) in pictures it looks like the smaller, chronograph hands are luminous, too. They are not, which is disapointing.
The price was very good and the shipping was fast. Would be happy to do business with this seller again. I now have 3 Luminox watches & love them all!!

watch is exactly what i hoped it would be...actually even better. the 47mm is a perfect size for my wrist. really like this watch. very well built. feels as sturdy and durable as they come!

I really like Luminox watches. They have proven durable and with their self illumination, very handy in dim-light situations. I prefer watches with less texturing than many of the current Luminox offerings but this watch looked very clean in design. It is, in fact, a very nice piece of industrial design---more restrained than many other chronographs.
Two aspects of this watch were off-putting to me. First, its size is quite startling(in diameter, not so much in thickness). The watch face fairly dominates the wrist. Second, and most disappointing, is that the watch is almost indiscernible in dim light. It seems in their dedication to the black on black style, Luminox decided to all but eliminate the wonderful illumination their watches usually provide. The chronograph functions require bright sunlight and 20/20 vision to be seen at all.
To my mind, this watch would be a keeper with better illumination. Un-lit, it's just a large overpriced watch.
