The (Must Have) Emergency LightJun 11, 2011
By David Ng I was surprised I received the Lite Saver in two days. The product has a rock solid look and well build. The night light LED has a pleasant blue color light with perfect brightness.
The 21 emergency LED are super bright when turn on manually. It lit up the entire living room or my master bedroom. I was surprised so much light can produce within this small unit. I tested out the performance of the emergency lights last night. After 14 hours the lights are still going super bright.
I also tested the emergency light if there is a power failure. I switch the unit to auto setting and unplug it from the wall. at first I wondered why the emergency lights does not turn on. And then I realized the Lite Saver has a build in light sensor which will sense the light level of the interior. If there is sufficient light the unit does not turn on. When I walk down to the dark basement the emergency light turns on by itself. What a clever design. My other emergency light products just stay on no matter what and draining the battery. I am glad I found this Lite Saver from Amazon. I would purchase additional units for myself and my 83 years father. I highly recommend this product to everyone for daily use and in case of emergency.

A top-ot-the-line emergency lightMay 28, 2011
By Paul Claxton I bought a couple pairs of these handy lights for emergency use in the event of a power outage. They stay charged by leaving them plugged into a power outlet. They use only 1.5 watts when charging, a small trickle of electrical power at best. They are designed to not block the second plug in a standard electrical outlet. The power plug's prongs are designed to rotate 90 degrees into the body for lantern use. There is a sensor that turns both the night light and the flash light on and off only when it's dark. The switch in front let you set it to on which turns the tiny one LED night light on, to automatic where the night light goes on and off with the sensor and turns on the 21 LED array when the electrical power fails, or off. The construction is pretty good with a quality plastic housing that feels like it can take some use. The included carry cases lend some protection to the lantern and allow you to hang them from something. There are cutouts in all four corners which could be used for attaching alternative lanyards (not included). I have the blue LED night light which works well in the hallways and bathrooms. In use the emergency lantern brightens a entire room for many hours - more than any local power outage is likely to last. Overall a well designed product with quality construction. Every family home or apartment needs a pair.

Just got thisSep 15, 2011
By Stella Nemeth I'm editing this review because after just a short while I'm having problems with one of the two lights. The sensor that tells the night light to turn on or off is now broken and the night light is on all of the time. I switched where the two lights are to make sure it wasn't just that it was too dark in the area for the light to turn off, but it is working the same way in both areas. There have been no power outages since I bought this set, so I don't know how they will work a that point. I'm quite disappointed.

I just got this yesterday. They are much better than the emergency lights they are replacing. They arrived partly charged and ready to go. The night light is blue and at least as bright as the one that they replace. The emergency light is much bigger and brighter and I expect it to last longer than the last one I owned.
I was out of power due to Hurricane Irene for several days. I had two emergency lights and immediately pulled one of them out of the wall so save it for the next night just in case. But they didn't last the first two nights which is why I am replacing them.
They arrived with a stand so you can put both of them together on a table, and will a carry pouch for one of them that you can hang around your neck so you have some hands free light while you are walking.
I'm pleased with them, but won't know just how long they will actually last until the next black out.

Very good and not so goodFeb 04, 2012
By F. Bell Of the two I received in the package one did not work correctly. That is not so good. Since these are designed as emergency lights I hold them to a higher standard then just a regular light. It would charge ok and the night light worked, but when removed from the socket the emergency light failed to come on, and yes it was dark in the room.
The other light worked very good. The red light came on when charging and went off when fully charged. The night light (light blue effect due to the blue plastic cover) would immediately come on and go off according to the amount of light it was exposed to and it is much brighter than the flat lights that are always lit. At least 5 times brighter. The emergency white lights lit up the entire hall way. Customer service was very good (they get 5 stars), they saved this review from getting a lower rating as they quickly replaced the bad light with just one e-mail through Amazon. The new light works as it should.
What I would like to see is that these units also become available in a white color not just gray (just how many of us have gray outlets?), and that they had some kind of UL label on them. Currently they do not and after all they are plugged into my house for 24 hrs a day. They are also advertised as being able to be used outdoors. They did not specify if they mean on battery power only or can be plugged into an outside outlet. At this point in time I like them enough that if they function as designed during a real power failure, then I intend to order more of them. Only time will tell.
Here is how they work. Simply plug the unit into any standard 120V AC outlet. Turn the switch to 'Auto' mode and the red charging light will come on including the night light (1 led bulb)if the area is dark enough. After about 8 hours the unit is fully charged and the red charging light will go off. If the power in the house should go off the 21 bright white led lights will turn on and remain on for up to 8 hours. Or you can set only the night light to run for up to 144 hours.
I suggest you test it prior to that by simply removing it from the socket after it is fully charged in a dark room or if in a bright room cover up the light sensor. And (this is just my opinion) switch the unit to 'off' before placing it back in the socket and again turning it back to 'auto' mode.
These units have a 2 prong plug (no ground)that can be turned and made to disappear into the body of the unit so it can be used kind of like a flashlight. They also come with a nylon carrying case with a clear plastic face and a belt that is long enough that you could wear it around your neck for a hands free light. The LED bulbs are advertised to last over 100 thousand hours and the unit is advertised to cost about 28 cents per month to run.
According to their web site they come with a 5 year warrenty if purchased directly from them (see below). That is also not so good, if accurate. Since the warrenty is also mentioned here with no reference to the part about their web site one would think it would also be good when purchased from Amazon, and I suspect it is. If this is a concern, then I suggest you check with them first before purchasing these units.

Best night / emergency light out thereJan 05, 2012

"Rick"
I purchased these lights to replace a very old emergency light that only had enough power to stay dimly lit for 15 minutes. It's amazing what the lower powered LED technology in these lights can do. I have these lights set up in my upstairs hallway and by my front door. In night light mode, I find that it puts out enough power that I no longer need to turn on my hallway light when going upstairs for the night or if I make a trip downstairs in the middle of the night. We haven't had a power failure since I installed these, but they're easy enough to test manually by pulling the plug from the wall. They instantly light up - BRIGHT. I have a feeling that in a real extended power outage, I would end up flicking the switch on these so that only the nightlight was on. It should last for days at the lower power output. At full output, it'll light up whatever room it's in.
One feature I love on these lights is the night sensor. If it's already light in the room, they won't come on at all, even during a power failure. Great way to save power!
Notes - I would not recommend using these as a bedroom nightlight. In my opinion, it's way too bright for a bedroom.
So why did I give these 4 stars instead of 5? To earn 5 stars, I'd like to see them come with replaceable rechargeable AA (or similar) batteries. I know that when the built in batteries start failing to hold a charge in a few years, I'll have to end up replacing the entire unit instead of just the batteries.
