Fantastic watch with great features!Mar 06, 2010
By S in Los Angeles The GS1300B is, first and formost, a G Shock. This watch should last a long time.
The watch looks very elegant, esp. for a G Shock, which are typically bulky, digital and not what you'd typically consider wearing for a formal affair. This watch could easily pull it off! Much nicer in the flesh then the photos show.
You really need to download the manual in PDF format from Casio's site, and browse through it when you first get this watch. Configure your "Home City", and you can then sit back and watch as the hour and minute hands swirl around into their correct location, as if by magic! Within a day or so, the watch should (depending on your location) sync to the nearest Atomic timekeeping plant, and be set to the exact correct time!
After that, no need to worry about 30 day months, leap years, etc. The GS 1300B will automatically change the date for you, skipping to the 1st of the month at midnight of months with only 30 days, accounting for daylight savings time... you should NEVER need to worry about it displaying the correct date or day of the week!
Chrono, 24 hour countdown timer, alarm, world time... pretty much everything you'll ever need, including solar powered, all wrapped up in a dark, mysterious shell! "Tough movement" feaature even checks the exact positions of the hour/minute/second hands, using a special LED light. If any of the watches hands have been bumped out of position or moved by strong magnetic force, the watch checks and automatically corrects their positions, every hour at five minutes to the hour! Sweet!
Comes with a soft resin band, which, at first, concerned me. I generally prefer a bracelet type band, but this is a nice resin band, very soft and comfortable, and carries on the dark, black look of the watch.
If you're thinking about a solar, atomic watch that's built to last, you won't regret getting the Giez GS1300B!

Excellent Quality WatchJul 23, 2010
By AC I won't go through all of the details and specs of this watch as you can find this out easily via Casio's website, the watch description or any other websites, etc.
The watch is beautiful and feels very comfortable on the wrist. The ion plated metal parts are not as dark as the main picture shows (and I like this). It's more of a dark gun-metal charcoal color which has a nice shine to it in the light. It is not dark black. The four buttons on the watch however are just metallic and are not coated in the same dark color - but this is barely noticeable. Setting the time and checking out other functions on it was very easy to do. I also found that the hands glow very brightly and it is easy to see the time in the dark. It's fairly light also, although heavier than other G-Shocks that I have handled before.
All in all for my first G-Shock I am quite happy. It's the first G-Shock design that I've ever liked, and its automic time feature (when you're in the right zones in the world) is a very nice feature. Knowing that it is shock resistant and most importantly - that the battery will last almost forever help make this item worth the heftier price tag. This can be a watch for life, and there are few out there in my opinion that can provide the same functionality, ruggedness and looks. Unless of course Casio comes out with something newer and better :)

Exceeds ExpectationsJan 08, 2011
By Terry S This watch really goes beyond anything I could have expected for the price. Perfect time, will run forever, and very good looking and sturdy. Day to day, I look past the Movados in the drawer and go for this watch most of the time now because it is so reliable, attractive, and feels good to wear.
There are really just two things to understand about the watch: 1)You're not going to be figuring out what time it is very well in the dark or even a dark club; 2) The "advanced" functions like countdown and alarm aren't too useful because of the short duration and quiet beeps that aren't configurable. For me, the juice isn't worth the squeeze on these functions. But back to the first paragraph, I don't care. Casio can take away those functions and it would be fine. Don't really need that bottom dial either with the 24 hour view.
So for future upgrades, etc., just add a light to one of the buttons or bump up the glow in the dark coating on the hands. And either add some better "beep" configuration or kill the alarm/countdown.

Fast shipping, great watchDec 09, 2010
By 4nbstd Awesome watch.
I was little worried about rubber band, but they are holding up pretty well so far. Stopwatch/count down timer hand is little off from the center though (i.e., at 0", the second hand is slightly to the left of 12 position) - maybe that's why it was so cheap, but overall, very happy with it.

High Technology In A Great Looking Super Rugged Black Watch.Oct 25, 2010
By John Werner
"JWW"
I never thought I would consider purchasing a Casio watch. I equated the Casio name to somewhat cheesy and definitely cheap products - mainly calculators and keyboards. Well, I admit I was misinformed because after many months searching for an accurate, waterproof, overbuilt, and cool looking black watch I came to the conclusion I would try the Casio GS1300B-1A. The GS1300B-1A seemed to be as close I could get to my target attributes at an affordable price. I must say it is a very attractive watch, even better looking in person. It's easy to read the time at a glance as long as light is adequate. The luminous markings do not last all night long and they're not superbright so if you require that this isn't for you. The black rubber (resin, what's the difference?) strap is nicely integrated to the rubber yoke which frames the dark gun-metal brused case. While this makes the rubber strap look better, it's still a piece of rubber and I think a watch of this caliber deserves a black metal or black ceramic band to really complete the high-end techno look. I wonder if Casio makes a metal band to work with this watch? This watch really is a great looking watch, even though it looks technical its refined looking to the point it doesn't scream: "look at me". It must be hard to make technical watches not look silly because far too many watches with lots of technical features look tacky.
Everything isn't perfect however. I do love the watch, but I hate the instruction manual. The many features of this watch demand clear and concise instruction which isn't the case here. I got so confused trying to manually set the day, month, year, and time I was ready to try to return the watch. It did not help that here in Alabama it seemed impossible to get the radio signal from Ft. Collins. I still can not know if I understand how to set the year and month, but after many attempts to force the watch to manually synchronize failed - it finally was able to receive the atomic clock signal and it set itself correctly. I know its correct as far as time goes and if I knew how to read the year and month I might know if it did that too! Maybe I having a brain hiccup, but I am usually good with technology and this manual brings me to my knees with frustration. Like I have noted, the watch has now synched and I feel good knowing all I have to do is keep it charged (should be easy without trying) without further adjustment. I therefore am pleased with the super looks and tremendous care-free accuracy of this watch, at this price it is easy to recommend if these attributes likewise strike a chord in you.
