Officially SWEETDec 11, 2007

My bad; didn't click the "over 13?" button the first time I submitted this.
Let's get the shortcomings over with; that is the smallest part of this review.
-This watch is one rated for 30m, which generally means it's OK to shower in it, but not to swim with it. Normally, I like a watch that is 50m or more water resistant, both for the water resistance, and for the implied shock resistance. On the other hand, I haven't seen any problems with water or shock resistence.
Now what's right with it. (Pretty much everything.)
-Appearence. Classy. Small, smooth, simple. A very refined appearance for office or formal occasions, but without pretension. The red sweep hand is the only highlight, and balances the austerity of the rest of the watch.
-Functionality. HH:mm:ss, day and date, and markings for an appropriate degree of precision for routine uses. Discrete luminescent markings are as good as any non-tritium marking I've seen.
-Reliability. No batteries, but when worn consistantly, is almost as good as a quartz. I haven't subjected this one to the extremes that I have other watches, but that isn't what it is for. Still, casual abuse hasn't effected it at all.
This is an excellent time piece for most civilized environments and I'll wear it anyplace I would wear shoes to (as opposed to needing sneakers, boots, or bare feet).

Bargain of the DecadeMay 21, 2009
By Gerard M. Palomo I bought this watch online one night after a second glass of Bordeaux. Part of the motivation was price;part was curiosity. What kind of watch do you get for (U.S.)$61.00? When I opened the box, I was shocked by the elegance of the watch's face: a relatively unreflective black, with two textures - an inner circle of satin-prismatic black, surrounded by an outer ring of flat black containing and contrasting beautifully with, the polished-metal hour markers. Unlike most watches, the day and date wheels of this watch are BLACK with white lettering/numerals. This is a subtle but important difference - it makes the caldendar functions much less distracting and harmonizes with the rest of the black face. If this watch had a polished-steel second-sweep hand, it would be easy to mistake for a much more expensive dress watch. As it is, the fire-engine red second sweep adds a bit of levity, and tells all onlookers that it isn't pretending to be something it's not. This spirit of levity prompted me to abandon the folded-link stainless steel bracelet and substitute a dressy but slightly sportier black leather "Baby Crocodile Grain" leather band by DeBeer (available online from Strapped for Time). The supplied stainless bracelet is a fine band, but those who have experienced the pleasure of solid-link stainless bracelets will find it wanting.
Timekeeping? I have had the watch in operation only a few days, so I cannot comment upon long-term accuracy. Mass-produced mechanical movements like Seiko's 7s26 are cased and sold essentially without regulation, so accuracy can vary greatly from one watch to another. I own five Seiko watches powered by this 7s26 movement, and most will run, after a "break-in" period, at about +/- 5 to 10 seconds per day. This little watch has been running at +15 seconds per day for the last two days, but it is just out of the box, and will take AT LEAST one month of uninterrupted running to settle into its own best rhythm.
In summation, this is an elegant, lightweight but solid watch with a dependable and durable automatic movement which will run for years without expensive servicing. Don't fret because it isn't as large as a Seiko "Monster" watch - just wear it and smile to yourself, knowing that it uses the SAME MOVEMENT as those larger watches (which means that their cases are filled with mostly air) and that, like any man who doesn't have to flash oversize phallic symbols to impress others, you've got the tool to do the job, dressed in a case about the same size as a Rolex "Explorer 1".

By Ian G. Stevens The guy below me said it all. It has an understated appearance, yet is refined. Excellent quality. I've found that the Caliber 7S26 movement gains around ten seconds a day or so.

Amazon's picture is wrong...Dec 27, 2010

The hands are slightly different than the picture that is shown. Simply look up the item number for the actual product. That being said, this watch is awesome, there's nothing I don't like! It's my first non digital watch. The luminous hands are nice but you need to charge them with a lot of light, and the luminous effect doesn't last more than 5 minutes. The back of watch is clear so you can see the movement, which is a nice touch. This watch looks really classy for how ridiculously cheap it is, and from what I've heard about Seiko, I rest assured that it will last for quite a long time.
*UPDATE*: Had the watch for a couple weeks now. I can tell this thing is going to last a LONG time, seeing as though I've banged it quite a few times already. Whoever said this thing scratches easily is retarded. I've accidentally hit the face (Pretty forcefully may I add) a few times, and it's still completely unscathed, and still ticking away.
